Studies reveal that almost 70% of new mothers suffer from postpartum depression that can last for hours, weeks, or even months. Postpartum depression can also be found in new fathers, although the percentage affected by this form of depression is no doubt less than women. Women with low self-esteem are likely to suffer more from postpartum depression.

New mothers should receive active social support from families, especially their spouse. Active support from family and spouse can bring down the depression level to a great extent. Babies need care, and it is expected that the mother will show the best care for her child. So, it is always necessary that a new mother should be given the maximum care and support so that she is available for her child.
