Wearing Glasses

If you do need to wear eye glasses, they are so great looking today that they have become a fashion accessory in their own right. Every clothing designer has his or her name on frames these days. Frames are available in many styles and price ranges. After getting your eyes tested, the optometrist or ophthalmologist will give you the prescription for the lenses so you can go elsewhere if you don’t like the selection of frames they have for sale there. Don’t feel pressured into buying frames at the place you get your eyes examined. You can have an optician fill the prescription at any place that sells eye glasses.

Choosing Glasses

When you choose frames, there are several points to think about before you decide on a pair or even a spare pair. (If you wear contact lenses, it is important to also have a pair of glasses that fit you properly and are the correct prescription in case you lose a lens or want to rest your eyes from contacts.)

Things to consider:

  • Do the glasses fit well?
  • Are they resting too heavily on the bridge of your nose, or do they slide down your nose?
  • Do you like them enough to wear them?
  • Are they rimless or fragile frames that you might “beat-up” too quickly?
  • Will you be playing sports with your glasses?

What about the shape of the frame?

Look at the shape of your face, is it round, square or oval? This should help you decide what shape the frame should be. Try on lots of frames to see what we mean. You will notice that certain shapes do look better on you than others. Stick with those shapes. You may like frames because they are trendy, if they look good on you, go for it.

What about the color of frames?

Remember if you’re going to be wearing your glasses a lot, you might prefer a look that will go with your clothing, if that is important to you. Choose a neutral shade like beige, gray, steel, tortoise-shell or brown. Some people even like to match their hair color. If you can afford to buy more than one pair, you can go for a different look for different occasions. You might want an everyday pair for school and a different one for other times. Or you might want something totally cool that no one else has. This can be a fun way of changing your “look”.
